Description: The cream form of ruxolitinib is used to treat a skin condition called eczema (atopic dermatitis) in people who should not use or have not responded to other eczema medications. Eczema is an allergic-type condition that causes red, irritated, and itchy skin.
About This Medicine: The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved ruxolitinib (Opzelura) cream 1.5% for the treatment of nonsegmental vitiligo in adults and pediatric patients 12 years and older, making it the first FDA-approved treatment for repigmentation of the skin in patients with the condition.
Rutinib Cream Used For: Ruxolitinib is a type of targeted cancer drug. It is also known by its brand name, Jakavi. You have it as a treatment for some myeloproliferative neoplasms such as myelofibrosis.
FOR MILD TO MODERATE ECZEMA :
Rutinib Cream is a prescription medicine used on the skin (topical) for:
- short-term and non-continuous chronic treatment of mild to moderate eczema (atopic dermatitis) in non-immunocompromised adults and children 12 years of age and older whose disease is not well controlled with topical prescription therapies or when those therapies are not recommended
The use of Rutinib Cream along with therapeutic biologics, other JAK inhibitors, or strong immunosuppressants such as azathioprine or cyclosporine is not recommended.
It is not known if Rutinib Cream is safe and effective in children less than 12 years of age with atopic dermatitis.
NOW APPROVED FOR NONSEGMENTAL VITILIGO :
Rutinib Cream is a prescription medicine used on the skin (topical) for:
- the treatment of a type of vitiligo called nonsegmental vitiligo in adults and children 12 years of age and older
The use of Rutinib Cream along with therapeutic biologics, other JAK inhibitors, or strong immunosuppressants such as azathioprine or cyclosporine is not recommended.
It is not known if Rutinib Cream is safe and effective in children less than 12 years of age with nonsegmental vitiligo.
